Station-Based Series Production

Steel Fabrication

As a production principle, CMS AS has adopted a station-based series production method to increase efficiency and stay competitive in the global market, completing every project it undertakes with this approach.

The Steel Fabrication Flow

01

Single-Part Fabrication Station

Where CNC-cut plates are marked, sorted, de-tabbed and bevelled for welding, profiles are cut, end details are prepared and any required grinding/fill work is done. Bending of plates or profiles that require it is also completed here. Once part lists are checked, items are dispatched to the pre-fabrication or panel station.

02

Pre-Fabrication Station

Where plates and profiles from the single-part station are assembled by position number, then welded, ground, filled and annealed. Where possible, several pre-fabrication parts are combined to produce modules.

03

Panel Fabrication Station

Where positioned plate sheets and profiles with prepared weld bevels from the single-part station are joined. After assembly they are welded to the defined welding procedure and, following deformation checks, delivered ready to the block fabrication station.

04

Block-Section Fabrication Station

Where frames, longitudinals and modules from the pre-fabrication station are mounted onto panels, then welded and ground in accordance with the welding procedure.

05

Main Block-Section Fabrication Station

Where parts from block-section fabrication are joined, any missing modules are added, and the assembly is closed with a panel from the panel station to form the block. Final checks of all station work are performed and the block is delivered to the relevant classification society.
